President Message

New York Metropolitan Chapter President 2012-2013

Jacqueline Hosford, ASID

Dear Members,

ASID NY Metro is into its 38th year!  I am honored to be part of this year as your Chapter President.   All of us, together, with the leadership of our 2012-2013 Board of Directors and many, many dedicated member volunteers will make this year fun, fruitful and fabulous.

At the beginning of last year, the ASID NY Metro Board of Directors chose a few key words to help keep us focused on our goals for the chapter.  They are wonderful words: renew, revitalize and reinvigorate.  Indeed, last years Board of Directors under the leadership of Pamela Durante and the hard work of many members succeeded wildly in revitalizing our Chapter.

This year, we will nurture, sustain and build upon the renewed foundation now in place: a strong committee structure to support our endeavors, and a strong administrative base to take care of the day-to-day business.   There are so many new and vital initiatives created last year – each providing added benefits for our members and our professional aspirations.   These are young programs.  It is important to remember that nothing of lasting value is built in a year, nor sustained without ongoing care.

Our strategic plan for this year is ambitious, reflecting significant realignment of priorities and focus from National.  Our Society is diligently assessing its goals and proactively addressing what ASID needs to be strong and relevant for our members now and into the future.  Our Society is reaching out to engage the larger design community and multiple stakeholders in our profession in order to be the rock-solid core of our profession in the 21st Century.

What does this mean for ASID NY Metro and you and me?  It means we will plug into business in a new way, using our creative thinking and business acumen to engage and provide long-lasting value for our profession and ourselves.  We will consider the past way of doing things and learn from it.  We will carefully evaluate what works and doesn’t and WHY.  We will embrace new technologies, fresh ideas, and young talent, assess what can work best for us, and forge our future in a smart and creative way.  We will work to become the vital core of the larger design community in the NY Metro area.

I have been thinking about which three words we can use to keep us focused on the tasks we’ve set ourselves for this year. I shall leave you instead with three important statements.  These are the newly stated Core Value Statements of ASID.  These statements guide this year’s NY Metro Chapter Strategic Plan and all of the ongoing and new initiatives we hope to achieve this 2012-2013 year.

  • ASID leads collaboration with those working to promote the value of interior design.
  • ASID prepares its members to excel in a dynamic and evolving profession competing in a global marketplace.
  • ASID leads the profession through the generation, collection and dissemination of applied knowledge.

I hope that you will all join me in working towards these goals.  I welcome your volunteer efforts, as  well as your insight and ideas.  I look forward to meeting and talking with as many of you as possible during the coming year.  Together we are ASID NY Metro.

Best regards,

Jacqueline Hosford, ASID
