Designer Profile

Mimi Fong was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Jericho, New York, where she was a member of Arts Honor Society and graduated from high school with honors. She subsequently earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minor in Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After college, Mimi embarked upon a career in IT, rising to the rank of Vice President with responsibilities of a senior architect. Throughout this time, her devotion to the arts remained evident, as she explored the New York art scene and continued her study of classical ballet.

The master bathroom was updated with a new deep soak tub, a long vanity counter, and a hidden storage closet. To complete the calming look of a beach cottage, we selected a soothing white, cream, and aqua color palette, clean-lined fixtures, antique makeup table, and board-and-batten-style walls.
We enlarged the bathroom by taking over the adjacent linen closet. Neutral colors combined with shades of green gave the bathroom a warm, luxurious feel.
Ample step-in shower with stainless steel shelf, and multi-function shower head makes a daily routine enjoyable.
Plenty of light and a wide counter top makes this a functional bathroom.

The main area was opened up by combining the living room and dining room into a loft-like space. Solid oak flooring in dark espresso grounded the room. We painted the walls a pale shade of blue, then filled the room with white and cream-colored furniture. A sumptuous wool-and-silk rug anchors the furniture grouping.
Cozy storage benches on the staircase landing created a welcoming entrance. A large skylight showers the area with brilliant sunlight throughout the day.
Custom bookcases and bright colored floor pillow turned an awkward corner into an inviting library.
The kitchen was enlarged to accommodate modern appliances and more counter space for cooking and entertaining. Glossy white cabinets, some with glass doors, gave the room a clean and contemporary appearance, while providing plenty of storage. Dark slate blue porcelain tiles on the kitchen floor allowed for easy cleaning. A granite countertop in a honed finish complemented the iridescent blue mosaic tiles on the backsplash.
In the master bedroom, we combined two small, awkward spaces into a single room that accented the large window and created a walk-in closet for two. We enlarged the bathroom by taking over the adjacent linen closet. Neutral colors combined with shades of green gave both bedroom and bathroom a warm, luxurious feel. A large rug, made with a blend of wool and silk, provided warmth underfoot on chilly winter mornings.

We angled the den’s furniture plan so that the seating arrangement is closer to the breakfast area and positioned a round dining table to facilitate the flow between the spaces. A writing table behind the sofa not only serves as console table for the breakfast area, it also functions as an after-hour work space for the client. A dining chair serves double-duty as a desk chair further strengthen the connect between the two areas.

The color scheme is inspired by a pair of watercolor painting brought back through client’s travel: warm neutral colors for the walls, window treatment, and furniture while soft yellow, bright orange and earthy green are used as accent colors throughout.

A custom media cabinet with clean lines provides ideal solution for housing A/V equipment and displaying accessories. Its matching finish provides visual connection to the kitchen nearby. A storage bench with custom cushion by the entry door provides a comfortable yet functional seating space for donning shoes or dropping off briefcases.
For a dramatic focal point, a collection of Lily Pad plates with various sizes and irregular edges in deep earthy green are custom arranged on the wall of the breakfast area.
For furniture, we used distressed leather, cotton and ultra-suede that are durable, easily cleaned, and pet friendly. Simple valance treatment in linen softens the functional blinds while absorbing sounds. Two cowhide rugs provide soft comfort underfoot and add sophistication to the space. Our generous use of wood and polished metal in clean geometric shapes establish the masculinity of the space.
We created a sumptuous and inviting feel for this room by selecting a custom headboard, and accessorizing the bed with new linens and pillows piled high. We chose simple window treatments to further dress up the space while letting in plenty of sunshine from the wall-to-wall windows.

A deep window seat with comfortable cushions provides the perfect space for meditation, with the added benefit of ample storage space below the lift-up lid. The petite desk and custom slipcovered chair create a perfect perch for some quiet writing.

In the second bedroom, we installed a contemporary wall-mounted vanity and sleek fixtures. We extended a low bench through the frameless shower door to create the illusion of a much larger room, and chose a white, green, and gray color palette to lend brightness to the windowless space. Geometric patterned tiles complete this hip, modern look.

We transformed the existing powder room into a more spacious, beautiful, Zen-inspired space. By removing an adjacent hall closet, we gained the space necessary to widen the door and install a modern, full-size tub and vanity. We achieved an Eastern aesthetic by using an organic color palette and natural materials like woven bamboo and limestone.
