"There are two distinct advantages in working with Alice: The first has to do with her ability to fully understand our desires when it comes to creating the “look” of our home. Alice consistently reveals a deep expertise in knowing how to coordinate, style, and most significantly, acquire the furnishings that comfortably fit our taste. The second advantage is simply that Alice is a wonderful person: warm, caring and thoughtful. The relationship we have created moves beyond the realm of business: Alice is indeed a friend."

DECORATE-IN-A-DAY

Our two-day consultation service for homes or offices - it’s for the “do-it-yourselfer” who wants to experience working with a professional decorator before committing to more extensive engagements.

Here we optimize what already exists in a space and find ways to use items to their best advantage. This service best lends itself to those who have a firm grasp on the types of solutions they’re looking for but are not clear on how to bring the ideas together in a cohesive way. We supplement and refresh existing furnishings with new details, which may include solutions like merchandise purchases, new paint colors, flooring or window treatments.

Once decisions are made, clients can implement the concepts on their own or use our other services to implement the ideas with a greater level of assistance in execution. Throughout the Decorate-In-A-Day process, our resource library is also available for viewing together with our designers.

Living/dining room combination. Clients wanted us to reverse the rooms and make the original living room the dining room. We added the half walls and columns, and created the coffered ceiling. Faux finishing on walls, new colors, draperies, fixtures, and creating a working gas fireplace completed the look in Somers, NY
A casual living room/family room combination features inviting, comfy furniture in greens and beiges with large windows bringing the outside in, in Long Island, NY
Our client purchased the sofa and loveseat shown here prior to hiring us. Our challenge was to give their living room some oomph and drama; we added a wide crown molding (to the 9'ceiling) and chose to paint the walls charcoal gray for drama. We placed a bold standing screen behind the sofa in silver and gold metallics, added throw pillows, an area rug for visual warmth, and a ottoman to complete the sitting area in Poughkeepsie, NY
All of the interior walls were removed in this renovation project to satisfy the client's desire to be part of the socializing while she was cooking and preparing. Since the open plan's living room has mostly mahogany furniture and antiques, we melded the colors of the kitchen cabinetry to the LR to achieve a comprehensive look. Alot of counter space for food prep and frequent entertaining was also a must in North Salem, NY
This kitchen renovation required removal of a wall between the kitchen and dining room to create one large space. We chose a combination of dark and light cherry cabinetry with many architectural details (corbels, moldings, etc.) in a country look. The flooring, countertops, backsplash, appliances, lighting, and wall color all changed to coordinate with our clients' favorite colors of browns, terra cotta, beiges and metallics in this Eastchester, NY project.
Our clients were pleased with the original layout of their kitchen, but needed all new cabinetry. We chose a combination of a mushroom colored wood stain door with a dark glaze, and the reverse coloration for the island. We added a hood with exhaust fans inside above the cooktop which they had never had before. Replacing their old laminate countertop with granite was a big improvement, and the exciting glass mosaic backsplash with gold and bronze inserts was a wonderful way to unite the walls. Flooring is 18 square sealed travertine with glass borders surrounding the island, and stone inserts, all done in Bedford, NY
An inherited antique dining set moved with these clients from one home to a larger one. Now we had room for a pair of head chairs which we upholstered in a traditional tapestry fabric for practicality as well as style and color. The new addition of the art nouveau area rug rooted the furniture and created the color theme of greens and golds in Huntington, LI.

A dramatic 2 story family room had only the wall unit when we first arrived on the project. These clients have a large family and needed casual seating off the kitchen to watch sports and TV and be together. We faux painted the unit in a wood tone, added a large sectional in comfy chenille, used many throw pillows for lounging, and placed reading chair in the corner. We used the windows and fireplace as focal points by selecting a style for the draperies that kept the view open but dressed the windows. We 'fauxed' the tall mirrored frame to resemble tortoise shell, all in Poughkeepsie, NY
A really fun room for teenagers to have as their own with their friends to watch TV, spend time on the computer, and hang out. We began selecting colors by our fabric choice and built from there - the red sectional has contrasting blue welting, the area rug complements that, and the ottoman is upholstered in one of the throw pillow fabrics. We chose white shutters with wide rails, and created a built-in wall for desk space and storage. But the most exciting part of this small, unique room are the walls which our artist did to mimic the fabric patterns in Dutchess County NY
This fabulous 2-story high entry hall features a double staircase and is probably everyone's dream! Initially this space had loads of potential, but the surfaces never did the space justice: plain 6 floor tiles, solid colored walls, no chandelier, and golden oak handrails handrails. Our goal was to make it elegant, dramatic, yet understated. We added very wide crown moldings which curved with the ceiling line, a huge chandelier, faux finished walls, a more elaborate handrail with finials and a new dark stain, carpeted runner with stair rods, and 8 architectural prints custom framed for the walls. The flooring became 18 marble tiles each of which we had surrounded with marble mosaics. Our clients in Bedford, NY were thrilled with the results!
We were originally contracted to work on this library 20 years ago when the clients had first bought this house. At that time we created the walls of built-ins only flanking the rear window. Over the years the clients' family had grown and the amount of books and memorabilia they wanted to keep on shelves had also grown. They requested we add to the custom built-ins so they were on all the walls of the room. We also recommended a simple version of a coffered ceiling. We added a lantern style chandelier, wood stained wide shutters, an area rug bordered with leather, and a newly reupholstered reading chair with a comfy ottoman. We hung a wide screen TV above the fireplace and had it surrounded by moldings to integrate it with the newly designed mantle with a stone surround. We also reupholstered our clients' antique loveseats which had been in the family for 3 generations. and incidentally, we had worked on this pair of loveseats several previous times for the clients' parents! Project is in Mt. Kisco, NY
A country style kitchen has light wood cabinets with a weathered glaze, and dark green granite countertops. The backsplash area behind the cooktop is accented with tumbled marble and mosaics borders. This client felt inspired by her new kitchen renovation and vowed to learn to become a better cook. Long Island, NY
This master bathroom used emperador marble, both light and dark, but needed wall treatments. We hired our talented decorative artist to create panels on the walls to complement our fabric choice for the window treatments. The faux panel has a perimeter faux wood molding, with a bird and flower motif inside it. It's dramatic, but in a soft, genteel way, in Long Island NY
Since we have worked with these clients on previous projects, we knew their tastes. It was wonderful to work with them yet again, and exciting to be able to show them what we knew they would like right away. We drew the colors for this condo kitchen from the soft greens in the granite. Next, we decided on the backsplash tiles, some of which were raised and quite pricey. We used those sparingly and decided on their placement from the blueprints. We supplemented them with less expensive tile choices for the majority of the backsplash. The cabinetry was both light and dark on the island, and was accented with architectural details. Collections of favorite ceramica, plants, and other personal items worked to bring this country kitchen in Mt. Kisco NY together to become a warm, charming room.
